Solar Energy Conservation Program

In an effort to reduce demands on conventional fossil fuel based energy sources the City of Sunset Valley is offering a solar energy conservation program to homeowners.  Solar energy systems create clean energy with no emissions.  Using solar energy to generate 1 kilowatt of power is equivalent to planting 50 trees.

Austin Energy rebates $.50 per watt of energy to be generated by solar power.  Residents should apply for the Austin Energy rebate and receive a letter of intent before applying for the rebate offered by Sunset Valley.  Austin Energy representatives will conduct on-site surveys to determine if your home is a good candidate for solar panel installation.  The solar PV systems will be interconnected to Austin Energy’s electrical grid.  Requirements for the Austin Energy rebate can be found at: Efficiency/Programs/Rebates/Solar Rebates/index.htm

Rebate Eligibility

1. The system must qualify for an Austin Energy rebate; and

2.  The system installation cost must be $6/kW or less.

The City of Sunset Valley will provide a rebate of $1.00 for every watt up to 3,000 watts ($3,000). Funds are available on a first come first serve basis.  There is a cap of one rebate of up to $3,000.00 per household.   Please call Public Works and Environmental Services at 891-9103 to check rebate program status before conducting any work.
