The Municipal Court serves as the judicial branch of city government and is also part of the state judicial system. It hears Class C Misdemeanor criminal cases, including traffic violations with fines up to $500, and city ordinances violations, which may carry fines of up to $2,000 for certain offenses upon conviction.

The Court does not handle small claims, driver’s license suspension hearings, medical revocation hearings or perform marriage ceremonies. These matters are heard in Justice of the Peace courts.

When you receive a citation, the options you have to resolve your case can vary depending on different factors. For general information about court procedures see Municipal Court Procedures for Adults or Municipal Court Procedures for Juveniles (under age 17). This information is not a substitute for legal or other professional advice. You should consult an attorney to advise you on your case. If you have questions about your best course of action, what plea you should enter, your rights, or the consequence of a conviction of the offense for which you are charged you should contact an attorney. Neither the clerk, judge nor prosecutor can give you legal advice.
